Dear CREW SV Community,
Late last month, participants in this year’s Rising Leaders Mentorship program met each other face-to-face, during a mixer at the San Jose Municipal Rose Garden and Luna Mexican Kitchen. For the first time in over a year, we could safely gather, share stories, and generally catch up – without anyone saying, “You’re muted.”
It felt… amazing. And I can’t wait for more of that kind of experience for all of us.
As we approach the midyear mark, and things continue to improve on the health front, there are many things to be excited about in our CREW SV community – including in-person get-togethers. Below are some things I am jazzed about, and wanted to share with you.
In-person events: Our first general in-person (outdoor) event is slated for June 24, in Morgan Hill. Come see what’s putting this once-sleepy town on the map, and then cool off with wine and appetizers at the new Mo-Hi Social. We’re planning more exciting in-person programming, while also providing virtual events as well. Make sure you check the CREW SV Events page often for updates.
Getting involved: Our Membership Committee is planning a fantastic program next month to help you get the most out of your membership. Got questions about joining a committee or the board? You’ll want to come to this. The event will feature nationally recognized speaker Jenn Cassetta, whose talk – titled the Art of Badassery – you won’t want to miss. More details to come, but you can register now.
The CREW Network Spring Leadership Summit is slated for June 10 & 11. CREW Summits aren’t just for board members: They’re amazing opportunities to network and learn among peers from all over the country, especially if you’re a recent member (or even a nonmember)! If attending in-person in St. Louis is not an option, you can sign up for the virtual program at an attractive price.
Honoring our own: Keep an eye out: We’ll soon be opening up nominations for the CREW SV annual chapter awards. So be thinking now about industry peers and partners who might be a good fit.
ELEVATE: A special “thank you” to the volunteers who assisted in ELEVATE, led for CREW SV by steering committee members Ginger Sotelo of Pahl & McCay and Anna Mcquillan Rose of Transwestern. This year’s version of our signature awards event was virtual, but as usual, it honored a tremendous crop of women (and men) in our industry. Shout out to award winners Anna Mcquillan Rose for her role as an amazing deal connector as well as Kristi Pearce-Percy of Cuschieri Horton Architects for being our Chapter MVP.
Making the world a better place: Our amazing Bay Area DEI Initiative has a great program slated for June 30: Jennifer Cantero, from Sensiba San Filippo, will speak about “The intersection of Real Estate and Sustainability.” Come learn all about B-corps, sustainability, inclusivity – and how they can benefit your business. Registration is now open.
Finally, a note of sadness and appreciation: Like you, I’ve been devastated by the terrible attack on the VTA light rail yard last month in San Jose. Many of us work with VTA colleagues professionally, or simply use their system to get around, and the stories of the victims -- and their families – are gut-wrenching. They are the backbone of our community and I hope and pray that we can honor them by ending our national epidemic of gun violence. In the meantime, here is a resource list on how to help.
As always, please reach out with any questions, feedback or ideas about any aspect of our chapter.
